Magnetic Resonance Imaging in 18 Horses with Palmar Foot Pain
نویسندگان
چکیده
Magnetic resonance imaging can demonstrate core lesions, dorsal tears, and sagittal splits in the deep digital flexor tendon within the hoof capsule in horses with unilateral or bilateral palmar foot pain. Abnormalities of the navicular bone can be seen in horses with no detectable radiological abnormality. Lesions of the articular cartilage and subchondral bone of the distal interphalangeal joint can be identified. Evaluation of Palmar Digital Nerve Block and Distal Interphalangeal Joint Analgesia in Lame Horses Associated with Hoof Pain due to Sidebone Fracture
Objective- To determine if the pain of the third phalanx due to sidebone fracture in horses can be attenuated by analgesia of the distal interphlangeal joint and palmar digital nerve block. Design- Clinical study. Animals- Seven horses with unilateral forelimb lameness associated with hoof pain due to sidebone fracture. Procedures- Seven mix breed show jumping horses were selected from hor...
متن کاملUse of magnetic resonance imaging to assess soft tissue damage in the foot following penetrating injury in 3 horses
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses the magnetic properties of tissues to create a high resolution image, taken in any anatomical plane. The use of MRI in equine diagnostics is still in its infancy, but the technique has great potential in the investigation of many equine diseases, especially diseases of the foot. Conventional imaging modalities, including radiography, diagnostic ultrasonogra...
متن کاملNavicular disease...remembrance of things past
Over the past few decades, the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis of equine lameness has revolutionized our understanding of what used to be termed ‘navicular disease’. Prior to MRI, navicular disease was diagnosed primarily by a positive response to palmar digital nerve blocks (PDNB) and identification of characteristic radiological findings; particularly changes...

متن کاملAnatomical transverse magnetic resonance imaging study of ligaments in palmar surface of metacarpus in Miniature donkey: identification of a new ligament.
BACKGROUND Palmar region of metacarpus in the horses and donkeys is an important region because of its tendons and ligaments which contribute to stay apparatus. This study was done on forelimbs of 6 healthy Miniature donkeys to detect the tendons, ligaments and their accessories on the palmar surface of metacarpus in this animal. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on that magnetic resonance imaging ...
